The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People - Do You Know The Difference Between Effective And Efficient

Time management tools are essential for you to get the most out of your day. Yet most tools focus on efficiency - packing in as much as possible. "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" teaches us that this is not the best way to manage time. To truly make best use of your time you need to be more effective - doing more of the right things.

The most common time management tools are to-do lists, calendars and daily planners. All of these tool are helpful in enabling us to fit in as many things as possible during the day.

Simple to-do lists are useful aids to making sure that everything gets done. A more sophisticated version is to link a to-do list to your goals and to prioritise what you're going to be doing for the day.

Calendars and appointment books tell us what we should be doing in the future so that we don't forget it. However they don't provide much more insight than that.

All of these tools are good at reminding us what we should be doing, however they all lack one essential ingredient - they don't tell what the right things to do are.

The Key to Effectiveness - Doing the Right Things

Leaders are people who do the right things rather than doing things right. If you are to take control of your life and be more successful you need to be more effective, you need to learn to lead.

The first step is to identify what your goals are for all the areas of your life, not just your work, but also your family life, your personal development and your community life. You can then ensure that you are working on all the aspects of your life in harmony.

You need to go beyond daily planning and start planning a whole week. During one day it is quite possible that you may only focus on one or two parts of your life - you go to work and you come home and spend some time with your family. Over the course of a whole week, it is highly likely that you can touch on all areas of your life. Planning the whole week enables you to ensure that you plan all aspects of your life.

You need to have a clear statement of all your goals - your long term vision and mission for your life, your medium and short term goals for all areas of your life. As you are planning your time you should examine each of your goals and take the appropriate action.

Understand that as you will need to deal with people, you will have to allow some flexibility in your schedule. You can plan sequences of events that are entirely under your control efficiently, but people will require a flexible approach if you are to deal with them effectively.

As you develop your schedule for the week, ensure that all the major tasks that you want to complete are included. Allow time for flexibility.

Once you have your weekly schedule you can start working it. The key now is to have a plan for the day, with a clear idea of what you are going to achieve but be prepared to adapt your plan as unforeseen circumstances crop up.

Traditional time management encourages you to plan one day at a time, filling each day with a list of things to do. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People points out that this may enable you to make efficient use of your time, but not effective use of your time.

To plan effectively you need to expand your horizons to cover the whole of your life and to plan a whole week at a time.

A Comparison Between the HTC EVO 3D and the Sensation

Currently, the Taiwanese phone giant HTC manufactures two of the most powerful smartphones in the market. These are the EVO 3D and the Sensation. This might you wonder what the differences are between the two. Let us compare both handsets.

Let's start with their displays. The Sensation's display is a 4.3 inch S-LCD capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. This offers a pixel density of 256 ppi. The EVO's display is a similar 4.3 inch display. It offers the same resolution and pixel density. So what's the difference? The EVO's display is a 3D glasses-free touch screen. This means that you never have to wear specialized glasses for that stereoscopic effect.

Let's now compare the built-in cameras on both phones. HTC's flagship sports an 8 megapixel camera. This comes with other features such as dual LED flash and autofocus. The Taiwan-based company's unique handset sports a 5 megapixel camera with similar additional features. You may think that the later offers less. However, it has a unique edge. It can capture stereoscopic images and videos using dual 2 megapixel cameras. This is a feature the company's flagship does not come with.

When it comes to processing power, both smartphones have an edge over most models available in the market. The Sensation comes packed with a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor Qualcomm MSM 8260 Snapdragon chipset under the hood. The HTC EVO 3D comes with a similar chipset. It comes packed with a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor Qualcomm MSM8660 chipset under the hood. Both chipsets come with an integrated Adreno 220 GPU for unsurpassed graphics. The only smartphone that rivals the two in terms of power is the Samsung Galaxy S2 and its 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 dual-core processor Exynos chipset with an integrated Mali-400MP GPU. When performance comes to mind, these handsets will never let you down.

When it comes to the latest software, the HTC EVO 3D and the Sensation will not disappoint. Right out of the box, they come pre-installed with the latest smartphone-optimized operating system Google's Android has to offer. This is the Android OS version 2.3 (Gingerbread). With the amount of power packed under the hood, Gingerbread is essential. Since it can manage the power consumption of each and every app, you are assured the phones will last longer. Without Gingerbread, they will simply drain the batteries quickly.

This is a brief comparison between the HTC EVO 3D and the Sensation. Now that you know the details, you can now better decide which smartphone is right for you.

Differences Between Microsoft Office 2007 and Microsoft Office 2010

The release of Microsoft Office 2010 is fast approaching and many are asking questions whether it is worth it to upgrade. It is not cheap to upgrade to 2010 so in order to make the move you would need to know exactly what differences you will get and what are the benefits of Microsoft 2010. This article will outline some of the key differences you should know in order to help you make the right decision when upgrading or not. Office 2007 brought the introduction of the ribbon which is the menu bar at the top section of the screen. Whilst it was poorly received initially because it strayed away from the button menu toolbar that was so prominent in the predecessors. It has become essential to the use of Microsoft Office and has become far more practical for users once the learning curve has been overcome.

The biggest upgrade to Office 2010 is the increase in utilization of the new menu system. Microsoft Office 2010 has taken that ribbon's success and has built on it to stretch it across all products in the range including Outlook and OneNote which were previously still using an older menu system. The new ribbon which was blue in 2007 is now a standard white in 2010 but can be easily changed to which ever you prefer. Initially you will have the white ribbon but you can still switch to the old button style if you still have not yet liked the new style.

With the release of Windows 7 in late 2009 has meant that Office 2007 did not utilize all of the features of the new operating system. The new features of 2010 office do use the new platform with a new set of icons to be able to be read along the task bar so you can easily switch between. You can also see previews of the work to find what you are working on just by moving your cursor over the application icon.

New templates and layouts are now available in Office 2010 because as you would know if you have been using 2007 a lot that you keep using the same title pages you can now be happy to know that Microsoft Office 2010 has provided a range of new templates with improved functionality for users.

In summary Office 2010 improves on the great office suite that 2007 is and gives users more potential uses with the integration of the menu bar across all of the suite now.
