To make a letter the most basic use of a word processor, Open your word processor by finding the icon, or looking for word processor in your programs. Once you find the word processor (usually located on the desktop) open the program.

Once you have opened the program open the word file, and choose the letter document, and then a letter wizard should open. Once it opens you can choose the letter style, and then the letter wizard will open.

When the letter wizard opens fill out all the formalities such as who it is to, from, date, etcetera. The wizard will then close. You will see where to place the body of your letter. Look for an insert key on your computer then press it, and use your mouse to put the pointer in front of the point where you wish to start your letter, just start typing until your done. Then hit insert again to turn it off. Then go through the grammar and spelling by pointing at each word that is highlighted and right click. A box will then come up that will show you how to correct your errors. In addition you can go to tools, and find your thesaurus if you need it.

To keep your letter from being generic, there is a tool bar at the top of the page with a lot of options to spruce up your letter. After you have finished your letter, you can put the pointer at the top of the document by holding ctrl and home at the same time. Then click the left side of your mouse, and click and hold and drag to the end of the document until it is all highlighted in black. To change your font (letter style) you can go to formant at the top of the page, and choose the font and size you like.

If you want your paragraphs indented, then you will choose format paragraph, and this will make your indentations, and line spacing which is to decide if you want one or two lines between the end of each sentence. If you want to put bullets , to make a point highlight the area and go to format bullets.

To insert your date, just go to insert and choose insert date. If you wish to insert a picture go to insert picture, and insert the object or clip art. To underline you can highlight a word then choose the u with the underline at the top of the page and underline the specific words. The same goes for making some letters bold, aligning your letter, and numbering.

You can also add some fancy letters by going to insert artwork, highlight and choose the one you like and put your letters or words you want to add into your letter. If you do not like the artwork then highlight and choose the delete key on the computer to take it off the page.

Some key shortcuts are ctrl, home takes you home. ctrl end takes you to the end of a page. you have page up and down as well. alt s will save you progress. It is best to save to documents when finished until you get to know your computer pretty well. When you press ctrl and s at the same time a box will come up for you to name your letter. Windows users frequently run into problems no matter if they have advanced service packs installed on their computers or have downloaded updates etc. This doesn't mean that Windows is not worth using, it simply happens due to lots of applications that it runs simultaneously. You should be first aware of what can cause the problem and then move on to the instructions to solve it.

Now, click on the last tab saying 'APM' and put a checkmark in the box that says 'Enable Advanced Power Management Support'. Click on 'OK' to exit the window. If it doesn't work, check that your computer supports Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) standards.

To check your PC's ACPI compliance, you need to click on the 'Start' menu> and click on 'Run'. Type 'devmgmt.msc' (without quotes) in the box and click on 'OK' or hit 'Enter' on the keyboard. Under the 'Device Manager' Window, click on the '+' sign leftwards 'Computer', it will show 'ACPI' there. If it's not there, it means your PC is not ACPI-compliant and hence you can't adjust power option settings.

Device Driver- Replace the faulty or damaged drive with a new one. Always download and install the latest, compatible drivers with whichever Windows version you have. Check your publisher or vendor's website for latest and compatible drivers.

Run Registry Cleaner- Repair corrupted/damaged registry entries by running a registry cleaner. This tool cleans up all the registry-related errors and helps Windows run smoothly and effectively. Also, if you recently removed a program from your PC but not its registry entries, it will result into registry error. The unused registry entries clog a computer and stop it from functioning properly. Therefore, always remove a program's registry entries also by going into the Windows Registry Editor.

Recent Changes- If you recently made changes to your PC like installing or removing a new software/program or hardware. Check that changes were made properly. A wrongly installed or removed software/hardware may result into Windows won't shutdown problem. Correct the changes accordingly.

Disable Wake on Setting - If your PC doesn't shutdown and reboots in a loop then this instruction is for you. It is because your PC's motherboard has an integrated Ethernet card that sets up wake on call. Check Device Manager's properties and disable the Wake-on setting.

Type the command without quotes in the box and hit 'Enter' on the keyboard. If the drive is fine, it won't show any message. If it comes up with a prompt that hard disc drive problems were not fixed, then it indicates towards hard drive problems. Type 'chkdsk /f and in the 'Run' box hit 'Enter'. Press 'Y' to fix the detected errors and 'N' to discontinue the command. If you press 'Y', it will fix the problem and save lost chain content as a file in the directory that can be checked later on. If you choose 'N' then it won't save the lost chain content.

Additional Tips:

Ensure that you are running latest service pack of Windows XP with all the updates duly downloaded and installed.

You must login as an administrator or at least should have equivalent right to perform some of the above mentioned instructions.

A common problem with inheriting Microsoft Access databases from other people is that you might not be able to get into the database without the startup form loading. You also might not be able to get to the database window to make any changes.

Now, assuming the database isn't an MDE file (which is an encrypted database that you can't modify), and the previous developer didn't tightly secure it using the User-Level Security Wizard, you should be able to get to the database window by simply bypassing the startup routine.

Any Access developer can specify a startup form and even hide the database window in the database setup options. You can even create an AutoExec macro that runs too.

If you hold down the SHIFT key when you first start your database - as soon as you double-click the icon to open it - this should bypass the startup options and bring you right to the database window.

If not, then the previous developer might have taken additional steps to secure the database. But, this simple solution will get you into 99% of the databases you're going to come across.

If this doesn't work, another easy solution you could try is creating a new, blank database and just importing all of the objects from the old database. You'll get all of the tables, queries, forms, and reports (and macros/modules too if you select them) but you won't have any of the database properties, such as the startup options. Just don't import the AutoExec macro if it exists.
