One of the big problems with Windows is that there are so many ways for your system to become compromised. Every day there are new malicious software programs designed to hurt your system or steal your personal information from it. For some users who have been stung by these issues, they have left the Microsoft operating system altogether because of the issues. Other decide to buy software to try to combat the problems.

The one advantage of Security Essentials is that it is free and designed to integrate fully with Windows by Microsoft. It's all included with the product now without a need for multiple addons to achieve a basic level of protection.
If you aren't currently running any form of protection, which is true of about half of all users, it's very important to make sure that download Microsoft Security Essentials. You simply can't afford to be without any type of protection. There are so many malicious things that can be done to your system that it is simply a matter of time before your get infected. While an infection is bad for you, it is really bad for everyone. Many users don't realize that when infected your PC can become part of the computing power used by spammers to send junk to people's email boxes.
The one big missing feature from this program is firewall protection. You will still need to have this turned on. In Windows you can do this through the operating system so it's not needed to be in the program. Some are used to their virus software having this feature, but it does not matter to much in this case.
If you are connected to other computers in any way, you can't afford to be without antivirus protection. Microsoft Security Essentials is a good first steps - it's easy, free, and does the basics well.
